HKIDA proudly announces the implementation of a Logbook System for interior designers, the aim of which is to link young interior designers with workplace mentors in order to enable them to acquire comprehensive professional knowledge in a systematic manner under the guidance of experienced professional designers.
Among the HKIDA mentors for this system are design partners, design directors, creative directors whom are representing the local and international interior design firms. The logbook system, which lasts for a period of 24 months, is open to Higher Diploma graduates with at least 3 years in interior design working experience or interior design Bachelor’s Degree graduates. This is a pilot scheme designed by HKIDA and currently recruited around 30 young interior designers to join as mentees.
“The logbook system attracts HKIDA’s Professional Members and young interior designers committed to developing mutually beneficial relationships with each other,” said Horace Pan, Vice-chairman of HKIDA and Chairman of RIDA Project. “Also, the system is meaningful as it can really help those who would like to pursue their careers in the interior design field.
Louisa Young, Chairlady of Membership of HKIDA and Director of Mentorship Program of RIDA Project, added, “Mentors for this program, most of whom are HKIDA Professional Members and seasoned veterans in the field of interior design, will be able to provide young designers with guidance towards their professional development. This is absolutely necessary in this age where the public expects higher and higher professional standards for interior designers.”

The logbook system requires mentees to obtain the knowledge and skills listed out in Part 3 of the proposed Educational System for Interior Design Practitioners in Hong Kong, which include project management, contract administration and budgeting, and fill out a logbook documenting their professional experience. At the end of the two years, the logbook will be submitted to HKIDA for evaluation. With approval of the logbook from HKIDA, the mentees are eligible to apply for HKIDA Professional Membership.
