FIRST OF ITS KIND IN ASIA – PROFESSIONAL GUIDELINE FOR THE INTERIOR DESIGN INDUSTRY IN HONG KONG

HKIDA is proud to announce that the Professional Guideline for the Interior Design Industry in Hong Kong will be published in June, 2014.  A year in the making, this guideline spells out the role and responsibilities of interior designers in Hong Kong, and helps clarify and define the skills and knowledge that practitioners should possess. Based on authoritative international sources as well as exhaustive consultation with local designers and stakeholders, Professional Guideline for the Interior Design Industry in Hong Kong is the first document of its kind in Asia. The Guideline will definitely raise the standard of the professional interior design practitioners in Hong Kong and ensure public safety, health and well-being.

To promote the launching in pervasive extend, a Press Conference will be held on 20 June 2014. Interior designers, media, design counterparts and all interested parties are welcome to witness the new stage of Hong Kong Interior Design Profession.

IFI 26TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
The annual global event, the General Assembly of IFI, was held at Kuala Lumpur on 3rd & 4th May 2014. HKIDA Committee Members Horace Pan, Timothy Cheng, Popo Leung and Wesley Liu formed a delegation and attended the General Assembly. 2014 is a special year for IFI, which celebrated 50th anniversary. New board of IFI 2014-2015 was elected. In her address on the final day of the General Assembly, the newly elected IFI President, Iris Dunbar, announced that the new board will Respect the Past, Change the Present and Inspire the Future. On stage at the IFI 50th Anniversary Awards Gala, the IFI Fellowship recipients were acknowledged by Shashi Caan, IFI President (2009-2014) and members of the 2011-2014 IFI Executive Board. Among the distinguished professionals receiving the IFI Fellowship was Hong Kong interior designer Mr. Kenneth Ko, who was nominated by HKIDA for his exemplary international achievement within the interior Architecture/ Design Profession and his great effort in leading, connecting, inspiring, enriching and influence the interior Architecture/ Design Profession in significant and outstanding ways. PUBLICIZE YOUR PROJECTS IN INTERIOR DESIGN CHINA

HKIDA continues to provide a platform to promote members’ latest projects at Interior Design China, a China monthly magazine.

This initiative aims in promoting local design excellence to the great China market and fostering more communication and idea exchange among interior designers in Hong Kong and China. Interior Design China is a comprehensive magazine from which designers and architects discover new trends as well as to communicate with each other. Its circulation is up to 60,000 and distributed mainly at the first-tier cities on the Mainland, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Wuhan. With the rapid development of the service industry and the explosive growth of inbound tourists expected in the coming years, how can Hong Kong’s service sector seek out new opportunities and enhance its competitive edge? Organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre, the Knowledge of Design Week (KODW) 2014 is set to provide delegates with an integrated perspective on service design for strategic activation, translating insights to innovation.
