APIDA is the bench mark of the best interior design in the Asia Pacific region and the winning entries of APIDA 2012 will be announced and presented at Hall N101of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 22 Nov 2012. Winners in ten categories including Sample Space, Hotel Space, Living Space, Work Space, Public Space, Shopping Space, Food Space, Installation and Exhibition Space, Leisure and Entertainment Space and student winners will receive their honor in that grand evening. East Gathering - Hong Kong 2012

A tri-city celebration of spatial design featuring professionals from Tokyo,Seoul and Hong Kong
Further to the success of the first edition of the East Gathering in 2010, HKIDA is pleased to take the initiative to organise the second edition of the East Gathering, with JCD and KOSID as the co-organisers. The event consist exhibition, seminar and student camp which will take place between 22 to 24 Nov 2012.

Nurturing Interior Design Talents


HKIDA is proud to present the competition-based exhibition Nurturing Interior Design Talents with The Mira Hong Kong. Part of the 2012 Hong Kong Design Year, the event provides a platform for future designers to showcase their talent in hotel furniture design.

The awards were announced and presented at the press conference on 31 Oct 2012.

Project name: Stainless Steel Ball Chair
Winners: Mak Man Lung and Fung Tsz Kin of Caritas Bianchi College of Career
  "The Form Follows Function Award”
Project name: High Rise Screen
Winners: Chan Chin To, Chan Yuen Fong and Wong Man Man of Hong Kong Design Institute
  "The Most Innovative Use of Space Award”
Project name: Hugging Root
Winners: Miracle Hui, Kenneth Hung and Sam Hui of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Three winning projects fabricated in an actual size are now displayed at the designated space on the 3F of The Mira Hong Kong until 21 November 2012, creating a unique exhibition open to the general public, who are encouraged to show their support on social media by casting “Likes” on favorite project pictures on facebook.com/themirahk. All three designs will then be showcased at the Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards gala at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 22 November 2012.
Find the New in the Old Exhibition & Dialogue with Designers


The education program “Finding the NEW in the OLD” reached a conclusion with a public exhibition of installations and dialogue with designers. The installations created by the 29 interior design students from PolyU School of Design, Hong Kong Design Institute, HKU SPACE and Caritas Bianchi College of Careers, together with four interior design firms, including Design OTHERING Co. Ltd., Joey Ho Design Ltd., Marc & Chantal Design and PAL Design Consultants Ltd., were displayed in an exhibition at APM Shopping Mall during 13-19 Oct 2012. Dr. Edmund Lee, the Executive Director of HKDC, Prof. Patrick Lau, SBS JP, Hon Advisor of HKIDA, Mr. Kinney Chan, the Chairman of HKIDA and Ms. Popo Leung, Chairlady of Education Committee officiated at the opening ceremony on 13 Oct 2012. The ceremony gave a good opportunity for the participating students to present their design concepts to the public. Also, during the dialogue session, Dr. Patrick Leung, Mr. Joey Ho, Mr. Nick So and Jason, representing the participating design firms, were invited to share their views on the topic.

This event was organised in response to the theme of World Interiors Day 2012 assigned by the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI).  The aims of the events were not only to let interior design practitioners, firms and students learn from the past in order to innovate, but also to promote the profession of interior design to the general public.
