Season’s Greetings
Dear HKIDA members,

Winter is always a season to share the fruitful accomplishments of the year. I am delighted to review with you the many exciting events organised by the Association recently, beginning with our very own 19th APIDA Awards Presentation cum 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner, followed by the East Gathering – Seoul Stop, HKIDA elected as the Executive Committee Member of International Federation of Interior Architects/ Designers (IFI), the launching of our two new publications - the latest edition of HKIDA Members Directory and the result of Survey on the 2Es of Interior Design in Hong Kong, and so much more.

Looking ahead in 2012, HKIDA will continue to launch exciting programs. The HKIDA executive committee looks forward to your continuous support and participation in our upcoming activities and events across 2012. Meanwhile, I take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous year of 2012!

CELEBRATING AWARD WINNING PROJECTS OF THE 19th APIDA AND HKIDA’s 20th ANNIVERSARY

About 400 guests from across the Asia Pacific attended the Gala Dinner to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the HKIDA and to present the 19th Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards (APIDA). The presentation ceremony was held on 22 November 2011 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Gold, Silver, Bronze and Excellent awards in ten categories, including Shopping Space, Food Space, Work Space, Public Space, Installation and Exhibition Space, Living Space, Leisure & Entertainment Space, Hotel Space, Sample Space and Student, were announced. East Gathering East Gathering SEOUL

The East Gathering Seoul was held with remarkable success in mid-October. Eminent speakers including Ryu Kosaka (Japan), KEIKO+MANABU (Japan), Mah Young Beom (Korea), Yoo Jeong Han (Korea), Kinney Chan (Hong Kong) and Antony Chan (Hong Kong) shared their spectacular projects with the Korea designers and students.

East Gathering is a cross-cultural event co-organised by JCD, KOSID and HKIDA. Spatial design professionals from Tokyo, Seoul and Hong Kong gathered to present a series of design events, including forum, workshop and exhibition. It was held successfully in Hong Kong and Tokyo respectively in Dec 2010 and Feb 2011. Over 1,000 participants were drawn to the episodes. It received high acclaim for its contribution in design exchanges and interactions in the regions.

VICE CHAIRMAN, HORACE PAN ELECTED TO BE THE MEMBER OF IFI EXECUTIVE BOARD 2011/13

Vice Chairman, Mr. Horace Pan was elected to be the member of IFI Executive Board 2011/13 in the XXVth General Assembly which took place in Taipei on 27 & 28 October 2011. The International Federation of Interior Architects/ Designers (IFI) is the global voice and authority for professional interior Architects/ Designers, collectively representing more than 100,000 practicing interior Architects/ Designers worldwide. In the upcoming years, HKIDA will take an active role in the governance and activities of the IFI and will devote the best endeavor to promote design at the global level.

NEW BOOK LAUNCHING – SURVEY ON THE 2ES OF INTERIOR DESIGN IN HONG KONG – EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The publication of the report on the 2Es of Interior Design in Hong Kong represents the culmination of the work over the past year by the RIDA taskforce. This report contains key information on interior design education and industry in Hong Kong, as well as recommendations by key stakeholders on ways to improve the interior design profession. Members will receive a complimentary copy of the report by post.

20th ANNIVERSARY PROFESSIONAL ROUNDTABLE SEMINAR & MEMBERS NETWORKING SERIES – INTERIOR REALM AND EXTERIOR REALM
With Dr. Ronlad Lu and Mr. Joey Ho as our Guest Speakers, “Interior Realm and Exterior Realm” was held on 7 Oct 2011, which was the third in our series of seminar & networking events this year. Over 60 participants attended.
